The Last Family

Good afternoon, dear Diary.

Today we brought all the horses from the ranch to our farm. Wizard hurt himself getting on to the trailer. He’s the black horse who seems angry a lot. He tried to kick Daddy and hit the trailer instead. He has a cut on his ankle. It took us a long time to get him steady, but I held his head and talked to him and he calmed down. Daddy washed the cut and tried to see how bad it was. He says it doesn’t look too deep. He put iodine on it and wrapped it up real good. I am praying that Wizard will be okay. Maybe he will learn his lesson not to be so mad all the time.

The other horses came over just fine. It took a long time because we could only take two at a time. They were nervous except for my pony, Princess, who is always calm. She trusts me because I ride her a lot. We put all the horses in the barn. We will keep them there until they’re used to it. We made the cows go out to the pasture. We will see how they do tonight. Blizzard and Ilsa will protect them.

Dad says that he wants me to be in charge of the horses. He says I know the most about them because I had lessons. I have to watch out for them and make sure they’re fed and watered and healthy. It’s a big responsibility but he thinks I’m ready. I’m a little nervous but I think I’m ready too. I’m going to take good care of them.

Yesterday we went to different places and put out deer corn and cameras to see if we can find some deer. The boys are going to hunt them. Daddy asked if I want to go too but I don’t want to.

I wanted to go swimming today but nobody but Trevor wanted to go and Trevor can’t swim with his cast. It is not so hot as it was last week and someday it will be too cold to swim.
