The Last Family
by Jeff Wofford

Monday, March 13, 6:00 AM. Brewer.

Elizabeth Jane Wilcox was born this morning at 4:54 AM. She weighed 7 lbs. 10 oz. and is 20 inches long, more or less.

An easier birth I could never have imagined. Labor was only 45 minutes or so. Amy was a pro. She didn’t seem to have much pain. It’s a miracle, really.

Thank God, she is bright and healthy. She is beautiful, so beautiful. She has fine, blonde hair with a touch of rose.

She is mine.

She has my eyes, my long fingers, my big toe that’s smaller than the others. She has Amy’s button nose and rose petal lips. She looks like the two of us.

I forget every time how tiny they are. So fragile, so helpless. All the glory of personhood in such a tiny package.

I love her so much. God protect her. Father, be her father.

Thank God. Thank God.
