Saturday, October 15, Time uncertain. Trevor.
We got chickens. Mom and me found them. We see a chicken sometimes but they’re alone and we can’t catch them. This time we went a new way in the country and we saw them. They were together. There are eight hens and two boys. We caught them all. It took a long time. They are hard to catch. There was a fence we made them go into and then we could grab them. They thought we were going to kill them. We put them in the van. One got out when we put the others in, but we caught him again. He stabbed me with his spike. I didn’t even cry.
We found their eggs and brought them home. We can’t wait to eat real eggs. Mom opened one but it had a baby chick in it. That was gross. We didn’t feel like eating eggs then. They made more eggs this morning. They didn’t have babies in them. We had omelettes and everyone was happy.
We are building a coop for them. We drew pictures of it to figure out how to make it. We got wood and hinges and things from the store. I helped put the concrete in the holes that hold it up. I helped nail the floor down. Next we will put the roof on. It’s like a little house.
