The Last Family
by Jeff Wofford

Saturday, July 15, 9:30 AM. Amy.

So far so good. She made it through the night.

She doesn’t seem worse. If anything she seems a little more steady, more substantial. Her blood pressure and heart rate are good. Her temperature is fine. I bathed her more thoroughly this morning and I can’t find any serious injuries, no broken bones. She’s definitely Daniel’s sister; you can see the family resemblance. I’m going to guess she’s twelve or thirteen, but like Daniel, on the small side.

She’s so frail and vulnerable. How in the world did they make it here with no parents, no one to guide and protect them? What happened to their parents? Could they still be out there?
