The Last Family
by Jeff Wofford

Friday, July 14, 3:45 PM. Garrett.

We found others. A boy and a girl, I’m not sure what ages.

The boy is pretty little, maybe 6. He’s doing okay, but his arm is hurt and Mom put it in a sling. He’s staying with the girl mostly, but Trevor has gotten him to play some. He doesn’t say much and when he speaks it’s in Spanish.

The girl is older. She’s unconscious on the sofa and won’t wake up. She’s got a big bruise on her head. Both of them were in bad shape when we found them, covered in dirt and smoke from the car. Mom is asking whether she should try getting her to swallow some water by using an eyedropper like we did with Dad. I need to go help with that.
