Tolerant

By Jeff | Published: May 11, 2012

Now I’m a tolerant person. I believe that everyone is equal and should be treated as such. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. People should be free to make their own choices, to live their own lifestyle, to follow their own star. So long as they don’t try to impose their views on me, we get along just fine. I tolerate everybody. “Live and let live”—that’s my motto.

It’s those intolerant people that I can’t stand. People who think they can tell other people what to do. Who want to impose their opinions on others. They should keep their fat mouths shut. Anybody stupid enough to criticize other people’s personal choices ought to be lined up and shot.

It’s those _________________ especially. They really get on my nerves. Nobody can take a step without them saying something about it. They infringe on other people’s rights to live their life the way they want to live.

They’re bringing this whole country down with their ridiculous beliefs and opinions. They clutter up the public discourse, spewing their arrogant opinions, and voting for every fool who pretends to agree with them. If we could just get rid of all those intolerant people, this country might be great again. But you can’t very well stick them all inside a concentration camp. What are you gonna do?

But me, I’m tolerant. I’ve got plenty of opinions, but I keep them to myself. It takes humility to be tolerant, and I guess not everybody’s got it.

“Live and let live,” is what I say. Too bad not everybody’s as tolerant as me.

Whoa! You’re pretty angry, aren’t ya’? Is it Mitt Romney who’s getting you all upset?…

So I agree with you 100% on intolerant people, but what makes Romney “intolerant”? I wouldn’t say I’m a huge supporter of him, but I don’t mind him.

P.s – I pretty much follow your site on a constant basis. Love everything I’ve read so far. Being an up and comer in software engineering, and a passion for video games makes it all the more enjoyable for me.

    P.s.s – Project Euler is fun :)

      Project Euler is fun!

You don’t think Romney’s intolerant? That makes me wonder if you’re intolerant. Only intolerant people can tolerate other intolerant people.

Joking aside, Terrence… this blog post isn’t quite what it appears to be. Look closely at the logic of it (or lack thereof), and I think you’ll see what’s under the covers.

Ah… I think I follow what you’re getting at. I wouldn’t consider myself intolerant. I can tolerate quite a lot, and do so on a regular basis. I think the problem is that I haven’t followed the political race for a while. I watched some of the first debates and didn’t mind Romney. I suppose the right phrase would be, “I didn’t hate him as much as I hated the others”.

Anyway… till your next post :)

if you cannot tolerate people criticizing others for their personal preference then you don’t believe in tolerance. before someone should be allowed to vote they should at least not be their own worst enemy.

Are you… are you criticizing me for my personal preference? That sounds intolerant to me, and I can’t tolerate it.
